What a weekend!

Dec. 1 /08

Is it December already??
,
I should have known. Last night we had our first big ice storm and it was a zillion degrees below zero. Brrrrrrr. Sometimes I wish my parent's ancestors had settled in Costa Rica or Florida or somewhere when they came over from Russia.
,
Anyway, it's cold outside but at the shows I did this past weekend, I was hot! I won four ribbons!Woo hoo!
.
It was a three-day United Kennel Club show at the Olympic Stadium here in Montreal, wrapping up the season until the spring. I've never done this well at an event. Just pinch me, pups - I think I'm dreaming!
. ..

Mama and Papa say I was right on the money.

Ha ha. I'm so happy I had to sneak in a little joke.

Anyway, I've got an amazing story to tell you about something fantastic that happened at the show, but I'll post about it next time because we're waiting for pictures.

Here's a teaser:

THIS IS A MYSTERIOUS BOXER ... WHO IS HE??
n
n n n

m
In the meantime, I'm going to brag for a while. Mama says it's not nice to brag, but I bet if she won four ribbons and earned 143 points, she'd be bragging too. So here are some glimpses of the show. On Friday I won Breed and Group. On Saturday I won Breed and Fourth in Group, and Sunday, well, let's just say I got in the ring at 9 and we were out of the stadium by 10! Can't win 'em all. Wouldn't that be dull?

Here are my ribbons. I also won a Eukanuba blanket.

/

So here I am ringside going into Zen space so I'll be able to concentrate. Actually, the thought of Emily's liver bits would have done the trick, but I think it's a good idea to have two strategies.

Here I am getting Breed on Saturday. I'm the second Boxer from the left, with my handler Emily, in the blue dress. Then I'm first on the carpet.

TURN DOWN THE VOLUME BEFORE YOU WATCH ANY OF THESE VIDEOS OR YOU WILL GO DEAF.

. I almost fainted when the judge looked in my mouth because my bottom teeth are crooked. Some judges don't like that but Mr. Goodjudge didn't care. Was I ever relieved.
n n n

In this quickie you can see how expertly Emily keeps me alert while the judge is going over the other dogs. Yup. That's liver in her hand. Ordinarily, I'd be drooling pools but for some reason when I'm in the ring, I don't drool at all. I can't figure that out, can you?

Anyway, don't let my jumping worry you. I'm just playing. (Emily sure kept me on my toes! Ha ha.)

You'll also see Emily shield my eyes at the very end because Mama was right in front of me taking this video. She and Papa aren't allowed to be near the ring when I'm shown because seeing them makes me forget all about being elegant and I start to act silly. So they usually hide, except this time Mama was a naughty girl. She thought her camera would conceal her face but geez, I'd know that camera anywhere ... she's stuck it in my face often enough ... I knew she was there but Emily distracted me before the idea of being goofy reached my brain.

That's why the video ends so abruptly - Mama saw that I noticed her and she had to go hide before I'd start acting like a clown.

Somewhere in that crowd is Sophie Brador's mom. She came to watch me but couldn't get close enough to the ring to be sure which Boxer was me. She looked for my white socks but half the Boxers had white socks, so she missed my big moment. Mama and I were so disappointed we didn't get to see my Auntie Sophie'smom.

n n n

Here is Saturday's final parade of Boxers after I was picked Best in Breed. I was so proud leading that pack of my peers!

At the judge's table, the handler two down from me is my breeder Barry, who showed my gorgeous sister Rose. She came in third. Way to go, Rose!

Here I'm competing for (Working) Group on Saturday. I came in fourth.

There are no pictures from Friday, when I won the Group competion - the bigger honour - because Mama was home nursing a cold and Papa didn't bring the camera.

n n n

Going home, I jumped right in the front seat of the truck - I wasn't taking a back seat to anyone... not that day, anyway. But Monsieur Le Superstar didn't even get to enjoy the ride because I fell asleep - sitting!

When I got home, I was out cold for hours. I was zonked. Three consecutive days in the ring just did me in! And unlike outdoor shows, this one was so noisy so I didn't get to snooze in my crate and dream about Gucci for a minute. This was our last show for some months. I'm OK with that but my parents are going into withdrawal so I'm going to have to be an especially good boy over the winter so they don't get cranky.

So don't forget to visit again later in the week when I reveal the answer to the burning question:

Who is the mystery Boxer?

Chef,

You Rock!! Congratulations on your show wins!! You look like you are enjoying yourself in the ring. I tried the show ring a couple of times but it was not my cup of tea - I'm letting my sisters and brothers do that! Glad you had a great weekend.

Your friend,
Niamh

Chef! That's awesome! Breed and group twice, that's HUGE! Specially looking at the stiff competition (although I would have put you first all the way).

I really wanted to attend the show to add cheers but the Big O sucks my will to live, there is no way I'm going near that death trap ever again :-(

AGAIN CONGRATS ON YOUR WINS!

No, no, Lorenza.. not Best in Show. The four ribbons were from three different shows, all held on one weekend. But one day, maybe....

Bravo Chef!
I'm so proud of you!
I watched the video and showed it to my mom, I knew she wished she had a son like you.
Now that you keep the blanket, can I have the bag as my sleeping bag?

Moco said...

Good job, big guy. You did really well. Is that mystery boxer your mom?

Mango the Maltese kiddo said...

Oh no Chef, I was only kidding when I asked for the blanket bag, thanks for your kindness offering the whole thing. You're in Canada, you need the blanket now.
Tell you what Chef, I would love to have the blanket only when you allow me sending you something from my heart. How does that sound?
Love
