Back in the ring / Award

May 20 /09

I was back in the ring this past weekend - back to struttin' my stuff and showing the world that I can be a serious boy when I want to be.

Everyone is always so amazed at the transformation I go through the minute I step in the ring. No one believes that the regal, calm, mature dog they see is the same fellow who spends his days being a total clown.
I'm silly right up til the time I get spiffed up for the show, which is like two minutes before I go on - I actually jump up on the grooming table. No one's ever seen a dog do that. (I do that at the vet too - isn't that unbelievable?) All over the arena, you see people hoisting their dogs up on their tables, even the ones that weigh l20 lbs! But not me - I take a flying leap and I make a clean landing every time.

Anyway, the secret to my impeccable behavior in the ring has nothing to do with winning the competition... it's because I get so totally focused on the liver bait that I can't think of anything else. I stare at that liver in Emily's hand and all thoughts of acting normal just slip away. Just knowing that any minute that piece of meat's gonna be in my mouth puts me in a trance.

Hey, I can be a pretty tough guy, especially when there are so many males in the ring with me, but show me the liver and I'm a pussycat. You want my tail up? OK! You want a smooth gait and my head high and proud? No problem! I am not kidding here - if Emily told me to stand on my head and spin in circles, I would.

I was so into the liver on Saturday, I won Best in Breed and Third in Group! But the minute I was out of the ring I ran to Daniel and practically jumped into his arms and slobbered a million kisses on his face!

Daniel and I showing off my ribbons

I was so proud of myself.
Some people say that dogs don't know when we've won a competition, but don't believe them - we know.

I also got to see my sister, Rose, and two of my cousins, Dreamer and Apollo.

This picture doesn't do Rose any justice. She really is the prettiest Boxergirl I have ever seen - and smart too. She's the thinker in the family. Not that I don't think. I just think about certain things, like sticks and liver; Rose thinks about everything.

Notice the trance she's in? Can you guess why?

This is my cousin, Dreamer. You met Dreamer a few months ago. He contacted me through my blog and later, I discovered he was competing at the same show as me. I found out that Mama fell in love with him when he was a tiny puppy and wanted to take him home. So he's almost, kind of my brother.

And this is my handsome cousin, Apollo. I don't know him very well but he's cool. I hear he's also a bit of a clown.

I also got a new towel

A couple of weeks ago I was very honoured to receive the Kreativ Blogger award from my beautiful friend, Honey. Thank you, Honey! I'm supposed to list seven things that I love. Ok, here I go:

Seven things I love

My cookies

Playing with my ball in the park

My stickpile

Bones

Catching my tennis ball

Riding in the car

Meeting up with my friends

Wouldn't it be great if I could take a car ride to the park with my ball to meet my friends from the hood, then go home and have some cookies and bones, then play catch, and then go stick hunting? That would be a perfect day.

Chef, I wish you posted every day because I literally crack up every time I read you. Especially when you talk about your sticks and stick piles. Congratulations on your wins. Very good. Your kin folk are very nice looking but I gotta tell ya, you are the most handsome one hands down. Jump over to my blog and see my Sophie chasing balloons. She tried to jump up and get them.

Oh Chef - CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Although I'm not the least bit surprised - I always thought you were one of the most handsome dogs I have ever met! (shhh...don't tell Ombre!)

I know what you mean about the liver treats...I get like that when we do our dance training, so that I don't care if we're in a noisy competition with other dogs and people around me...I'm just totally focused on Hsin-Yi. The only problem is - now we're moving up a level in the competition and so my human isn't allowed to hold a treat in her hand anymore when we dance so I'm not so sure I'll be able to focus on her as well...guess I'll have to work on it! :-)

Loved your 7 things...especially your stick pile...WOW!!! I love sticks too and that is SOME pile...am envious!!

Honey the Great Dane

Hola Chef!

We have not visited you in a while, it's great to "see" you again.

Hey, big CONGRATS on becoming BOB and Group-3. That's how it's done! You show 'em Chef!!!

Stinkin' kisses from Alih & James in Sweden.

Forgot to mention that James does the same thing - when he enters the the show ring he's working. The clown is all gone, it's amazing to see. He may be bouncing around otherwise, but when he is working, he's really working whether it be at conformation shows, obedience, searching, tracking you name it ... I guess they figured out it's better not to mix business with pleasure huh!!! ;)

Stinkin' kisses..
