So much bad news

July 31 /08

There's been so much bad news this week. Too many of my friends are sick, and, sadly, one of them died on Friday. It's got me thinking about how short and precious life is, and how we have to be grateful for every day that we wake up healthy and able to enjoy life.

My friend Bella was put down last week because of complications from bone surgery on her leg. She was only two years old. The news was so unexpected because we thought Bella was recovering.

I don't know Jackson or Kelsey Ann very well, but when I heard how sick Jackson is, and that Kelsey Ann just passed, I was full of pity for them, and for their families. I also just found out that my friend, Jericho, has been hospitalized with chronic colitis, and Zoe had two seizures the other night when her Mama forgot to give her one tiny pill.

The other night, Mama and I saw a boy walking his Poodle. He wasn't really walking her. He was kind of gently pushing her along the sidewalk. Then she just toppled over. When Mama asked if she could help, the boy told her that his dog would be put down the next day because she was old, blind, deaf and arthritic. It was unbearable to watch that little girl struggle.

So I sat out in the garden today, surrounded by blooming flowers ~ beautiful living things ~ to be contemplative and to pay my respects to my unfortunate friends.

I hope Bella, Kelsey Ann, and the Poodle are happy, and having fun tumbling on clouds. And I pray that Jackson recovers, and that Zoe and Snickers never have another seizure, and that Jericho will stop being sick. I pray that all my friends will have a long and healthy life, and that I will too.

Live life intensely.

What a beautiful, powerful post, Chef. We have to take some comfort in the fact that we can't tell time, we have no concept of whether our lives are long or short, if today is just another day or our last.

All we know is that we're here to love and be loved and for as long as we can, to bring joy.

Your pal,

Petey

Chef....

Yes, the news we have been hearing lately about all our dogggie friends has not been good...it's particularly sad when ya have ta saw goodbye to a special friend and offer lots of prayers fer the ones who are still with us but seriously ill. Flowers are beautiful and sitting among them should remind all of us that life is precious and ya have a special gift if ya have yer health. Let's hope that everyone who has lost it will find it again soon......

Chef,
that was a very heartfelt post, my friend. You are right! Sometimes we have to stop and smell the roses and appreciate the little (like me) or the big (like you) things in life.
My thoughts and prayers go to the doggies or kitties that crossed over the bridge, and to their families that miss them.
Rest in peace.

What a lovely post, Chef. You have a good heart and obviously care about all your friends. We were saddened last night to find Kelsey Ann of The Kapp Pack had to be helped to the bridge. There is so much sadness some days, it's good to sit in the garden and contemplate.

Dearest Chef,

I hope you know I love you and that my momma is so touched by this lovely tribute that you've included my big sister, Bella, in. You worded your post well. Live life intensly.

I miss Bella so much I cannot even begin to explain. Momma knows that yes, dogs do mourn too.

We are having a really hard time but reading your blog makes us happy in the knowledge that we have people and dogs who care...even if we haven't sniffed or played lickymouth, I know you'd be my best buddy Chef when we meet.

Woofs and slobbers from your very sad and lonely Newfie friend,

Gabe

(you know Bella still sends you lots of slobbers, because she could slobber better than anydog.)
