The Mystery Boxer

Dec. 5 /08

Well, I promised I'd reveal who the Mystery Boxer at the show was, so here I go.

The story actually begins over a year ago.

In the summer of '07, my parents and I were at my breeder's house out in the country. One of his Boxergirls, Promise, had just had a litter only a couple of weeks before, and all her puppies were there too. They were my puppycousins.

At the time, Mama and Papa were thinking of getting me a brother or sister, and one of Promise's pups caught Papa's eye. He was a dark brindle boy with just a little flash on his chest and on his toes. Mama wanted to get to know this cute boy so she sat down and played with him. She just adored him and held him until he fell asleep in her arms.
,
Mama almost missed dinner because she just didn't want to let go of the puppy. First, because she didn't want to disturb his sleep by putting him back with his noisy littermates. And second, because she'd never held such a young puppy and he was so cute as he slept.
.
One of the guests asked her little girl what she thought would be a good name for the puppy and she said, "Dreamer," because he was sleeping in Mama's arms. The name stuck until Dreamer was sold l0 months later.

We never did get Dreamer, but Mama never forgot him ...

Let's skip over to a couple of months ago when we had Autobiography Week. We got an entry from a Boxer named Boomer.

Boomer's mom sent pictures of him and he was a very handsome boy. We were more than happy to include Boomer's post, even though we had never blogged with him, and had no idea who he was or where he lived, or anything about him at all. We didn't know how he knew about Autobiography Week but we figured anyone who surfs the Internet can find my blog, so we figured that's what happened. So Boomer was included in "Our Littlest Memories." He kind of flew in out of the blue and, unfortunately, we never heard from him again. But a connection had been made and Mama often thought about him and wondered who he was.

Boomer

Fastforward to last week. At the show, a very nice lady introduced herself to Mama. Her name was Charlene and she said she recognized me from my blog. She said she visits my blog often and has kept up with all my adventures.

Then Charlene said that she was showing her Boxer at the show too, and he was just two crates down from mine.

It was Boomer!

Mama was so surprised. She remembered Boomer from Autobiography Week and was so happy to meet him and Charlene.

So we finally met Boomer! Mama could tell what a good boy he was. And she just loved his sweet face. He made her heart melt.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm Boomer at the show

It turned out that Charlene and Boomer live near Montreal, and Boomer came from the same breeder as me. Charlene had, indeed, searched the internet for information about Boxers and found my blog. When we got his Autobiography Week entry, we had no idea he was my cousin!

Well, Mama was so amazed at the coincidence. Talk about Six Degrees of Separation.

a small world, eh? But wait. You'll never guess what Charlene said next. She said that when she got Boomer at 11 months old, his name wasn't Boomer ....

It was Dreamer!

"It's a small world after all. It's a small, small world." It never ceases to amaze us that no matter where you go there is someone you know or they know of someone you know.

Chef, that is the coolest story that we've ever heard! Your mama actually held him as a little pup. And he could have totally been your little brother if she had just slipped him in her pocket before she left ;-P

Hi Chef,

It's the first time I'm leaving a comment on your blog.

I guess your mum and Dreamer were meant to be friends for life, though they might not necessarily be living under the same roof.

That's a rare chance to come by. Do cherish it =)

Sugar
