Chef unleashed !

September 10 /09

Wow, has it been a whole month since I last posted to my blog?

August seems to have come and gone so quickly. Well, for us it was just one show after another. And even though I didn't win any ribbons in the last two shows, I did have a great time. I even went to a beach! A couple of the shows were held lakeside at beautiful parks. But wouldn't you know it - Mama left her camera at home. And now you can't see me be afraid of the water.

That's right. I've discovered that I'm not a dog in the water - I'm a chicken! Mama and Papa took me to play fetch at the beach and when they threw sticks into the water, I would s-l-o-w-l-y wade in til my knees and stop dead in my tracks. Then I'd start pawing at the water trying to make the stick come to me. "What the heck am I doing?" I asked myself. My mind said, go get the stick but my body just stood there. I was shocked.
.
Anyway, I don't think Boxers were really bred to swim. We're so barrel-chested, I bet we'd just tip over head-first and drown. And it's even worse for those of us with docked tails because tails help to balance and propel.

Besides, when I was one, I fell through the ice into a friend's swimming pool in the wintertime and I had to be pulled to safety.

I don't think I'm ever going to learn to swim. But that's OK.

Want to see me run instead?

That's me at a BBQ at my breeder's house in the country a few weeks ago. There's nothing that makes me happier than running off-leash in a wide open space in the sunshine.

In the truck on the way to the BBQ. I love driving in the country.

And looking out the window.

There was the delicious smell of cow poop everywhere.

At the BBQ I stole my breeder's football. Heh.

This is my impersonation of a football player.

I played with all my relatives. Here I am with cousin Leo.

Look what our parents got to eat. I copped a couple of scraps and I'll tell you something - if you know a girldog who can cook like this, I'd marry her tomorrow.

And here I am running and jumping with our friend, Liana. Some of you may remember a similar video from last summer. Liana always makes me jump for joy.

I sure hope all of you are having a great end-of-summer too!

Boy, have you had a busy summer. Run like the wind, big guy. Forget about that silly water. It's not for everyone.

Nothing wrong with not wanting to swim. I, myself, prefer wading. Running looks much better (although I am not a big fan of that myself, either).

You sure can sky! Yowsa!

Must be a boxer thing because little Delilah waits for her lab friends to fetch the sticks in the water and then steals it from them on the shoreline.

When she does get in, her legs are super stiff and she swims like a toy soldier.

Hey Chef,

You are one good looking boy. We couldn't help noticing your body structure, your poise, your topline, your expression, man you are one hot looking stud. Those white paws - are you wearing socks?

Love,
Homer

You look like you're having a great time in your videos! I used to have a football that I liked to carry around, but I've since moved on to a soccer ball. You should try one out sometime. Sorry to hear that you don't enjoy swimming. I was scared of the ocean the first time I went, but now I go crazy whenever I can smell the water or hear the waves. Maybe the next time you'll see just how much fun it is to wade and swim.

Hi Chef
That party looks like a lot of fun-- running loose around with other doggies and getting some good food.

I only like to sit in the water. I don't swim. And it took me a while to get used to that.

Aw, Chef - I just LOVE watching you run around! My human says you are the handsomest Boxer she has ever seen and she loves how lean & muscular but graceful you are - the way she thinks dogs should be (that's why she likes Danes too coz we have the same body shape!)

You look like you're having a great time at the BBQ - although your ball is really odd. It looks kinda squashed. My human told me that is an American football...our footballs are round! :-)

hi Chef, that's such a great video of you running with your football. that's a great field. we would love to run with you.

we're sorry that you don't like to swim. we never see boxers swimming at the dog park either. some dogs are just meant to stay on dry land.

woofs.

Hey Chef, what a great summer you've been having!! Don't worry about not being able to swim, I can't either...I guess that's why Mom makes me wear this awful yellow lifejacket, ugh. Speaking of Mom, she's going to email you in the next day or two, 'cuz she wants to interview you for our book!!
