A big merci beaucoup to Public Security Officer Jean, who intervened last night just as Chef and I were approached by an aggressive, unleashed German Shepherd.

.
While out for a walk, the Shepherd suddenly lunged at Chef, growling and jumping in a frenzy. Chef was frightened but he fought back. I did my best to separate them, thinking that no good is going to come of this... I was really frightened too.
Miraculously, a Public Security van pulled right up to the curb beside us and Officer Jean jumped out and chased the Shepherd away. It turned out he'd been following the dog for blocks but couldn't catch him because he was biting. He let me put Chef in his van until the dog was gone and then spotted us as we made our way back home.
I hope Officer Jean finally caught up with the dog, that they are both unharmed, and that he was able to return him to his owners. He was wearing a tag so he probably just got out of his house or broke leash. He was likely a sweet, wonderful pet who was just lost and scared. But for us it was a close call and Chef and I were pretty shook up. We are so grateful to Officer Jean for his quick response and for agreeing to let me keep Chef in his vehicle until the dog was gone from sight.
An incident like this makes you stop and realize how lucky we are to have men and women out there whose job is to protect us, like policemen, firemen, public security officers and crossing guards. We don't often give them enough credit or appreciation for devoting their lives to public safety. It also makes you think about our military who protect our country and who go overseas to try and bring peace and prosperity to other nations.

These are very special people with an incredible mission in life and we should honour them every chance we get.

Chef! OMD! thank goodness you and your mommy we're okay. I hope the dog got caught and back home. That happen to Ginger & our mommy! 2-hybrid german sheppards charged and they scratched and bit mommy while trying to protect baby Ginger who got nipped too. Then our Sparky shortly after got attached while sitting by mom cking the mail. Some neighbor dog ran out of his house and charged! clamped onto Sparky's it was a bad scene. As fur me Crikit, I was charged by a neighbor dog when I was a pup and thank goodness I was light enough fur dad to pick me up! Now we aren't too friendly to other dogs unless mom & dad tell us to be and why we now bark loud when any dog passes our fence!
We're so glad ya'll aren't hurt in any way.
