It's July 4, American Independence Day

Clarification: In comments for the post below, some of you are congratulating Mama for her role in organizing the Atlanta Boxer Rescue. She had nothing to do with it other than knowing Carmen and making a donation. Sorry if the post was misleading. All the credit goes to the amazing Carmen and her team.

Today is Beauty's Sweet 16

It's also her Gotchaday. Fifteen years ago, Mama chose my catsister, Beauty, at the shelter and brought her home. She was about one year old - no one knew for sure because she was a stray.

It's funny because the night before, Mama was drawing a picture of a cat and then she met Beauty and she looked exactly like the drawing. Mama says Beauty has been a joy to live with since the day she arrived. I think she's a very nice cat when she wants to be, and she's real pretty, too. She's got the tiniest paws I ever saw. She doesn't always want to play with me because she's just a silly old spinster but I love her very much. So on her special day, Mama put a bow on her and gave her kisses and cookies. HAPPY SWEET 16 & GOTCHA DAY, CATSIS!

It's also Canada Day ...

Mama's friend, Carmen, has been working hard to organize the Atlanta Boxer Rescue. She and her team finally formed a board, applied for business and non-profit applications, planned events and organized rescue operations for homeless Boxers in the metro Atlanta area.

They've been waiting a long time for this day to come. They've talked about it for years. Carmen says that Atlanta has been in desperate need of a large, thorough Boxer-specific rescue organization. Now they have assembled a board of dedicated and talented people who will work to find Boxers their forever homes.

You can visit their website at: http://www.atlantaboxerrescue.org/ if you are able to donate time and/or money, or just to see what Carmen and her team are doing. Congratulations and best of luck, Carmen!

Well, it's Monday morning and where am I? At work, of course!

Papa often takes me to his office. Don't forget, I'm a Working dog! When Papa's on the dock, I'm right there with him, sleeves rolled up and working hard. When he's at his desk, I'm lying by his feet or carousing around looking for hugs from the staff, which I always get.

Part of my job is to run around the dock and find wooden sticks and planks. It's tough work and it doesn't pay that well, but the benefits are excellent. I get breakfast, lunch and snacks, water, transportation, playbreaks with the secretaries, snoozetime and cuddles. Sometimes other people bring their dogs to work too, so there's sometimes some goofing off.

Here I am on the dock with a big, slippery stick. Mama stopped by and that's her calling me "Poupoun," one of my nicknames, and that's my silly Papa barking in the background and telling me to find a smaller stick because this one was really a heavy plank and it was making me clumsy.

Have a great week.

You did an excellent job running up and down with that big stick.

That is so great that your Mama's friends have formed a Boxer rescue group. I know two dogs from a Boxer Rescue group here and they are terrific dogs.

Chef,
We had a cat that lived in our house named JuJu that looked alot like Beauty. JuJu was mean-mean but I guess she was pretty. She had blue eyes. JuJu got sick and died last winter. I don't really miss her but I think my mom does...

Beauty truly is a BEAUTY! Happy Gotcha Day Beauty!

Wow, Chef. Your mama and papa are really great 2 legged types. The rescue is such a pawsome thing for her to organize. We are checking out the website. And that is so cool that you get to go to your pawpaw's (or is it papa?) workplace. We'd love that but ours works for the government and the security in the buildings doesn't allow for us.

Happy Canada Day, Chef. We love you!

Woofs and slobbers from your Newfie pals,

Chef! I'm all confused again, because I can't find where to leave comments on your Canada Day/Beauty Day post. Happiness to Beauty!!!!! and Canada!

I sure hope you get this. Mom would love for all of us to meet up some time. She is crazy busy until July 8th and then off for the summer. I sure hope we can meet up. I might be a snob, because I am a diva, but my mom will give you tons of smoochies.

You make sticks look good! The other day I was at the pet store with my human and we saw a rubber stick! My human was gonna sent it in your Goodie box, but realized that she had already mailed it out! So maybe sometime later! I think you would look good with a rubber stick...you could bounce it around everywhere! Hehehe!

So, your package should find it's way to you in two weeks at the most! My human says that if it gets returned to her again she's gonna have a fit!

My human and I are so sorry you didn't get your package back on the 9th. Silly mailman!

You really do like sticks don't you? My grandpa has three huge piles of sticks put away for winter but he's silly and uses them for burning (which is nice and warm). But, since the sticks are already in the house I get to spend winter nights chewing on them! It's the best, in the summer they make me keep sticks outside.

Kisses,
Arabella
